High-strength Steel Grade B500DWR

Ezz Steel have always been pioneers in the Egyptian market introducing high-strength steel rebar Grade B500DWR as a common product in 2019, reinforcing its reputation as an innovator of steel products that meet the increased demand internationally for higher strength steels.

Grade B500DWR is the highest grade of steel rebar included in the Egyptian Standards Specifications ES 262-2/2015 which is compliant with the International Standards ISO 6935-2/2007, and is accredited in the Egyptian Code for the Design and Construction of Reinforced Concrete Structures ECP 203-2020.

It is worth noting that Grade B500DWR has been included in the recently released update of the Egyptian Standards Specifications ES 262-2/2021, with the same mechanical properties and chemical composition.

Why Grade B500DWR?

"Savings of up to 17% in steel quantities in the construction of buildings and 8% in concrete bridges."

Outstanding mechanical properties and chemical composition

500

Highest Yield Strength (MPa) in the Egyptian Standards Specifications ES 262-2/2015, exceeding that of Grade B400C-R by 25%.

D

Highest Ductility Class: Tensile Strength to Yield Strength ratio ≥1.25 which is the only Ductility Class permitted in the design of structural elements resisting earthquake loads, as stipulated in the Egyptian Code for the Design and Construction of Reinforced Concrete Structures ECP 203-2020.

W

Chemical composition ensuring weldability.

R

Transverse ribs which enhance bonding with concrete.

Grade B500DWR also exhibits a minimum elongation percentage of 13% which facilitates the forming of steel rebar, in addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Cold Bending and Re-bending Test as stipulated in the Egyptian Standards Specifications ES 262-2/2015.

Remarkable Savings in the Quantities of Steel Rebar

Research was undertaken by the four major universities in Egypt – Cairo University, Ain Shams University, Alexandria University and Assiut University – to assess the benefits of including Grade B500DWR in the Egyptian Code ECP 203 and the potential savings in the quantities of steel rebar.

The reports concluded that there were savings of up to 17% in steel quantities in the construction of buildings (depending on the number of floors and spacing between columns) and 8% in concrete bridges.

Ensuring a Homogeneous Reinforced Concrete Structure

The result of the reduction in the quantity and diameters of steel rebar has helped eliminate the formation of honeycombs when the concrete is poured, and as such, ensure a more homogeneous concrete structure.

Ideal Choice

Ezz Steel initiated the production of steel grade B500DWR due to its multiple advantages and has now made it a standard product representing 100% of its production. Due to the increasing demand from large-scale projects in Egypt, Grade B500DWR steel rebar is now available in 10 mm – 40 mm diameters and 6 m – 24 m lengths.

As a result, Ezz Steel has become the main supplier of Grade B500DWR steel rebar for major national projects. After B500DWR was specified by the international design consultants assigned to the Iconic Tower in the central business district of the Administrative Capital and the Cairo Subway, Ezz Steel became the ideal choice.
